Edifício Copan by Oscar Niemeyer

Oscar Niemeyer`s 1961 landmark social experiment Edifício Copan (Av. Ipiranga 200) is famous for its undulating wave form. It has 115 meters high, with 35 floors and it`s home to more than 2000 people who live in apartments ranging from inexpensive studios to luxurious four bedroom flats, in a total of 1160 apartments. It`s considered the biggest reinforced concrete structure in Brazil and the largest residential building in Latin America.The building`s most famous one-time resident was the Pretender`s Chrissie Hynde, who bought a condo in 2004 when she collaborated on a disc with Caetano Veloso`s son, Moreno. The building once offered everything a resident could need, and although the original cinema has since been converted into an evangelical church, much of the modest ground-floor mall remains.
