A little bit of Embu`s history

The city`s vocation for Art started in the 30`s when Cássio M`Boy from Embu won the first prize in the International Exposition of Technical Arts in Paris. Cássio was the teacher of many reputed artists as Tarsila do Amaral, Oswald de Andrade, Alfredo Volpi, among others. Another artist that contributed for the city was the ceramist Saki de Embu, whom became internationally known. In 1964 happened the first Arts exposition, giving international projection for the city.... In the 60`s the city started to be the center of attraction for hippies that exposed their handicraft work on weekends, creating the art and handicraft market. Since 1969, it happens every weekend and is the main turistic attraction.
