As São Paulo gears up to celebrate its 460th birthday on 25 January, the yearly New Year's Eve, or réveillon, party on Avenida Paulista will pay homage to this milestone with the help of massive LED panels displaying images dedicated to the city.
The stage, that originally supported a huge Santa Claus, Christmas tree and a troupe of musical toys, will be cleared to host a packed programme of diverse musical acts, who's sounds will be carried by a series of scaffolded public address speakers constructed along the city's most famous street.
Running from about 7.30pm until 2am, the list of performers scheduled to appear includes NX Zero, Sampa Crew, Paulo Ricardo, Maurício Gasperini, Supla, Toquinho, Marcelo Bonfá, Fernando e Sorocaba, Baile do Simonal and the champions of the 2013 Carinval, Mocidade Alegre.
This event always draws a massive crowd, and this year should be no different, with one million spectators expected to be in attendance. As with any show of this size, arrive early and expect the usual hassle of standing your ground and waiting on very long lines for the chemical toilets.
