HORTO FLORESTAL and PARQUE ESTADUAL DA CANTAREIRA

Located in the North Zone of São Paulo, it has an area of 174 hectares. The Horto Florestal offers to the visitors a direct contact with plants and animals of different species. There is a stage for events, picnic area, playground, running track, ginastic equipaments, drinkable waterspout, lakes and the Florestal Museum. It also holds the Summer Palace of theState Government.



In the Parque Estadual da Cantareira (Cantareira State Park), the visitors will be delighted by the natural attractives like a specie of pine native from Brazil, giant brackens and more than 200 types of animals, and will also learn a little bit of the region history. The local is divided in nucleus, and four of them are open for visitation: Pedra Grande, Engordador, Águas Claras e Cabuçu. The Pedra Grande was the first one to be open for visitation and today is the most reccomended for common visitors.



It`s infrastructure is good and includes even an amphitheater. It`s 5 trails with their features explicit in the names: Trilha Pedra Grande (Large Stone trail) (9,6km), da Bica (waterspout trail) (1,5km), do Bugio (Bugio is a monkey specie) (500m) e das Figueiras (Fig Trees trail) (1km). Animals, mostly monkeys, can be seen during the walk and it`s exuberant scenery. Great attractions are also the Lago das Carpas (Carps Lake), which has a playground and the Pedra Grande viewpoint, with 1010m, from where is possible to spot the Serra do Mar on a sunny day.
